In this session, panelist from key offices dedicated to supporting faculty in obtaining and managing sponsored research funds will discuss recent initiatives focused on streamlining their services. They will also discuss the range of services they provide and how faculty can best benefit from working with their respective offices.

Sandra Mason

Sandra Mason

Senior Director of Grants and Contracts, Grants and Contracts Accounting

 

Sandra Mason is the senior director of Grants and Contracts Accounting. In this role, she is responsible for leadership, strategic planning, and organization direction relating to sponsored project accounting, cost accounting, salary planning and distribution, and financial compliance. Mason has been with Georgia Tech for more than 25 years in a variety of roles within the Office of Grants and Contracts Accounting, Georgia Tech Foundation, and Controller’s Office. She provided functional expertise in the design of a fully customized grants management system at Georgia Tech and is currently leading the grants implementation under an enterprise-wide financial system transformation to cloud-based technology. Mason is a Certified Research Administrator.

Trudy Riley

Trudy Riley

Executive Director, Sponsored Programs

 

Trudy M. Riley joined the Georgia Institute of Technology in January 2017 as executive director of the Office of Sponsored Programs. She has been a member of the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI) since 1994 and has served as the Delaware Valley Chapter President and Northeast Section President. Riley currently leads the SRAI Financial Management Certificate in addition to contributing regular presentations on research contracts, sub-awards, and pre-award operations.

She is currently appointed to the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) Board of Directors. RACC manages the certification examination programs for Certified Research Administrators, Certified Pre-Award Research Administrators, and Certified Financial Research Administrators.

Susan Roche

Susan Roche

Research Administration Manager, Executive Vice President for Research

 

Susan Roche serves as research administration manager in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR). She works primarily with interdisciplinary research and large proposal support initiatives. Roche also administers the EVPR internal funding programs and limited submission competitions. She holds a B.A. in communications from Boston College and a M.S. in urban studies with a concentration in nonprofit administration from Georgia State University. Roche has been a Certified Research Administrator since 2013.

Gail Spatt

Gail Spatt

Director of Research Administration, Executive Vice President for Research

 

Gail Spatt serves as director of research administration in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research at Georgia Tech. She has worked in research administration for more than a decade. Prior to taking on her current role, Spatt handled large proposal submissions for the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. In her current role, she manages Institute-level decision-making in areas such as cost share and overhead waivers. Spatt holds a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia and has been a Certified Research Administrator since 2010.
